look closely you will see, starting on the left, that the
strips go 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. This is the start of a very
famous number sequence called the Fibonacci
Numbers. The sequence is made by adding pairs of
numbers to make the next:
1 + 1 = 2 , 1 + 2 = 3 , 2 + 3 = 5 , 3 + 5 = 8 and so on.
This sequence of numbers is very unusual. It occurs frequently in nature. For example consecutive pairs of Fibonacci Numbers describe the spiral patterns in pineapples, sunflowers, pinecones.
